Dr. can check throat: New throat pain can be from a strep throat infection (antibiotics are needed), a cold or influenza (antibiotics usually not used), or from some other cause such as allergies or irritants. Usually, a person sees the doctor if the sore throat is bothersome, recurrent, or doesn't go away quickly (mainly to check for strep throat). Throat lozenges and Tylenol (acetaminophen) or Motrin can help decrease throat pain.

See MD: Probably eustatian tube dysfunction ( ear drum popping). Also could be a middle ear infection or swimmer's ear. I'd have it looked at by a physician.

Think jaw joint: Often, patients report "ear pain" when in fact the source of the pain may be the temporomandibular joint, which is immediately adjacent to the ear.  If pressure over the jaw joint and above it causes discomfort, you likely have TMJ arthralgia.  Make sure you don't grind your teeth at night, no chewing gum or hard foods, and consider Ibuprofen if it is safe for you to use, if you think you have tmj.

What : What you're describing sounds like eustachian tube dysfunction.  If you get congested/sick/allergic/or are a smoker, your nose may not provide an open connection with the middle ear, so the pressure on either side of the eardrum can't equalize. That results in severe pressure that can decrease your hearing and cause pain.  You should be evaluated by an ENT doctor, as most er doctors will erroneously prescribe you antibiotics. It would be helpful to have a specialist look (and test) that ear.

Sounds like you need: A decongestant histamine to relieve pressure from the ear and nasal passages. Try taking Allegra d or Claritin d with nasal spray , chewing gums and yawning to help open up your eustachian tubes and nose.Also drink plenty of fluids preferably, warm to help you get better.

i have a really sharp pain in my left ear and going up into my head! it's really painful and more than just ear ache, it's more like a sharp pain and throbbing/surges. i also have a really sore throat! any ideas? xx

Sinusitis: Pain in the face and eye with radiation in association with a sore throat are likely infectious in nature.

Other symptoms of sinusitis include discolored nasal discharge, nasal congestion, upper dental pain, sinus pressure and fevers.

I would suggest seeing your doctor for an exam and treatment recommendations.
