See a doctor: Compression of the nerves in the thigh or lower back and other causes such as hernias, back problems or hip problems can lead to pain. You should rule out hip problems such as a 1) stress fracture, 2) avascular necrosis, 3) transient osteoporosis, 4) arthritis, 5) labral tears 6) infection. Muscle injury/tendinitis around the hip joint may also cause your pain.

Radiculopathy: Radicular pain, or radiculopathy, refers to pain that runs along the course of the nerves which exit our spinal canal and supply motor and sensory innervation to our lower extremities. Radiculopathy may be caused by a bone spur called an osteophyte in the lateral recess of your spine, or may be also caused by a herniated disk. You need to visit your MD and then a spine specialist.

Too broad an area: There is no one bursa that encompasses all your areas of pain. Hence bursitis does not explain it all. If you having pain at the outer part of your upper thigh, especially with application of pressure to the area, then that is likely from a bursitis. But the remainder of your symptoms might be coming from your lumbar spine. But you will need to go see your doctor for evaluation.

Snap, Crackle & Pop: This is actually somewhat common, but not a true "out of place" situation as you might believe.  It is extremely rare for a hip to dislocate spontaneously.  This is a powerful joint for obvious reasons.  What you feel is likely a snapping of a structure called the iliotibial band over the prominence of the thigh bone.  This can be annoying and cause inflammation.  Try icing and rest if irritated.

See details: It may be a trochanteric bursitis with iliotibial band involvement but it is more likely to be a referred pain from the lower back. Have your doctor or an orthopedist evaluate.
