how come i sometimes ovulate on the pill?

You shouldn't be..: A lot of women say that they still feel ovulation occurring while they are on the pill, but if they are taking the pill on time/regularly/not missing pills - they are not ovulating.  They may be experiencing some mild pain from something else (gi source, musculoskeletal source, etc).  But ovulation shouldn't/doesn't occur in women who take their pills regularly.

what exactly is different with ovulation on the pill?  like do you not ovulate at all?

Often does not occur: Most birth control pills, when taken on schedule, do prevent ovulation.  Even if ovulation occurs conception may still be prevented as the hormones in the pill thicken the cervical mucus, preventing entry of sperm into the uterus.  They can also change the lining and motility of the fallopian tubes such that the egg is not transported to the uterus.

if you were to ovulate on the pill, how would you know when you would ovulate? by how long your cycle is? i have a 28 day cycle.

No ovulation: If you are taking the pill as prescribed and not missing doses, ovulation is unlikely.

Would not know: Ovulation on the pill is extremely rare when taken at the same time each day religiously.

i'm on birth control, but once or twice a month i notice a big  increase in discharge. if i'm not suppose to ovulate on the pill, what causes this?

Need more info: It would help to know your age, GYN history and type of birth control you are using.  Please make an appointment with your OB/GYN physician to get to the bottom of this problem.

okay so im on the pill. im 7 months postpartum. i have a app that tells me when im supposed to ovulate and thats supposedly like today. 11/23/22 & my cervix is high, open & soft. what does this mean? i thought i cant ovulate on the pill. ?

: The pill stops or reduces the formation of the ovum but is not 100% effective that's why there is a rate of failure (about 1%) Regarding the findings the best person to advise is your OB/Gyn who knows your situation best

Should not: One should not ovulate on the pill. It works by preventing ovulation. If you miss pills then yes one can ovulate and get pregnant. Cramps can be caused by many things other than uterus. Bladder and bowel are common causes.

: No. An egg can be fertilized. The goal of BCP is to stop you from ovulating at all. When this fails you can become pregnant.

You don't: One of the main ways combined OC estrogen/ progestin pills work is by stopping ovulation. Low-dose estrogen pills and mini-pills do sometimes allow ovulation; if this happens it's usually around the usual time.

Yes: The pill is about 99% effective in preventing pregnancy when used precisely according to instructions, but it is not completely bulletproof.  All birth control methods (other than hysterectomy) have an associated small % risk of failure with subsequent conception.  So the bottom line is - yes - it is possible to ovulate while on the pill.  Go see your gynecologist; if pregnant, pill exposure is ok.
