Imaging: A cardiology evaluation including a Holter monitor may be indicated. Discuss a repeat CXR with your PCP. If you have no respiratory history or symptoms and do not smoke, it may be due to a technical issue.

when i lay on my side a certain way my rib cage overlaps, you can actually hear this happening with a popping noise. is this normal?

It can be: If you have inflamation of the cartilage that connects the sternum or breastbone to the ribs. Or you might have a fracture, but usually these things are very painful. You are still growing, so that might be your explanation. If you are having pain, or it's sufficiently bothersome, seeing your family doctor would be the best way to find out what the problem is and how to deal with it. Best wishes!

Need more info: Something called "sliped rib".I would suggest that you consult with an orthopedic surgeon. You don't have a major problem but maybe the orthopod can help stop this from happening.

Should recheck it: Since you are young and asymptomatic, you can have your chest X-Ray repeated in one year. If this shadow changes in size, then a CT scan of the chest is the best test to see it better and obtain its size. Most likely it is nothing of consequence unless you have associated symptoms.

Only X-Ray can tell: Rib injuries (whether broken or not) are notoriously bothersome, because the chest wall moves with every breath, so it is not possible to rest the injured area. Only an x-ray can tell whether a rib is broken or not; your doctor may be able to order one for you at a local hospital or freestanding radiology office, or else you can go to an urgent care clinic.
