Yes: Sperm may live in the female genital tract for up to a week. Ovulation is day #14 counting from the first day of your period. If you have sex on days 10, 12, 14, 16, and 18; you can optimize the chances of becoming pregnant.  With these details in place, you can absolutely conceive on the day of ovulation!

14 days from period: you ovulate 14 days from when your period starts  so if you had periods 26 days apart then you would ovulate on day 12    Normally it is 14 days on a 28 day cycle  But day 12 of a period is possible

Gotta Ovulate: In order to conceive you must ovulate (release an egg from the ovary). But even if you have very irregular cycles then you may be ovulating unpredictably. Seeing an md to determine why you are irregular is appropriate.

No: An egg needs to be released from your ovary (ovulation) close to the time you have intercourse for conception to occur.  Generally this would be around the middle of your monthly cycle, if you have a reliable one.

Around that time.: I generally advise my patients to have intercourse every other day from about four days prior to four days after ovulation.  If you know the day you ovulate based on basal body temp, cervical mucous testing, or ovulation predictor kits, then you can time intercourse based on that information.

Yes: If there are sperm in the vagina, they can live long enough to fertilize the egg when you ovulate.

no: The ovulation predictor kits detect the increased luteinizing hormone that occurs just before ovulation.  That hormone does not remain elevated so it would not evoke a persistent positive test.

50/50 chance: It is the sperm that does the deed, not the day you conceive that determines the sex of the infant.There are many myths about positions, timing, etc and all are correct half the time. The same as flipping a coin.
