Not likely: that your symptoms are caused entirely from infected piercing.  However, infection on the nose can spread to brain, so get to a doctor for immediate treatment.

See below: I would recommend an over the counter decongestant either phenylephrine nose drops or spray or pseudephedrine tablets (the ones locked up behind the counter). Use them for only 3-4 days to avoid rebound phenomenon.  You could also take tylenol (acetaminophen) for pain relief and throat lozenges for sore throat.  Keep yourself well hydrated and you should get better soon.

Remedies: For significantly sore throat w swollen tonsils / lymph nodes – see physician &amp; get a strep throat test &amp; culture. Antibiotics are imperative for Strep Throat.  Try saltwater gargles. Mix tsp of salt in 8 oz of warm water – gargle w this several times/day. You can gargle w Aloe Vera juice a couple of times per day. A mix of chamomile tea w honey &amp; a small amt of lemon juice helps. Neti pot helps.

Diagnosis first: Finding out the reason for the sore throat/stuffy nose is important. The two conditions may or may not be related. Allergies can cause a stuffed nose but usually not a sore throat. You can try over the counter cold/flu medicines to see if you get relief but if the condition persists for more than a couple of weeks, see your doctor.

Sore throat: If the naval piercing was done under sterile conditions, it isn't likely.  However, if the procedure was done and sterile instruments or processes were not followed, you could certainly develop fevers and sore throat.  You could have also been exposed to someone who had those same symptoms at the time of your navel piercing, even if done with the proper cleanliness.
