Very low-5% 5 yr.  : Stage IV non-small cell lung cancer is metastasis to any site other than lung, like brain.  This has a very low 5 year survival of 5% or less.  Very few (about 20%) have localized dissease at diagnosis.

You may feel normal!: Many people present with vague symptoms or none at all if the cancer is caught in an early stage as an incidental finding on a scan done for another reason. The common symptoms associated with something going on in the chest are chronic cough (that may be productive of some blood), shortness of breath, chest pain or discomfort with a deep breath, fatigue, weight loss.

Mostly regular syx..: The non- small cell cancers include squamous and adenocarcinoma.  Squamous cancers arise in the larger airways, like a central bronchus and often produce a hollow cavity and necrosis at its center.  They also include syx. Like fatigue, dyspnea, cough, and hoarseness.  Adenomas are found in peripheral lung tissue, and can cause similar syx., including chest pain and clubbing of the fingers.

Depends on stage: If early stage the optimal therapy is surgical removal of a lobe or side of lung. This depends on lung function and age/health status. Radiosurgery if not healthy. If a later stage and patient healthy and young enough treatment with radiation and/or chemotherapy may lead to resection.  If not then primary radiation and chemotherapy for stage 3.  Stage 4 with chemotherapy and palliative radiation.

Often cures: Surgery is the standard of care for stage i and ii lung cancer in the physically fit patient, and should be considered as an option in many patients with stage iiia.  Often can be done minimally invasively thorascopically or with a robot.  Recovery varies with the level of invasiveness.  Lung surgery has best outcomes by a board certified thoracic surgeon.
