FINE TO TAKE: This should be fine if you have done this and it helps. Just make sure to take after food so as to avoid stomach irritation and possible ulcer.

Safe NSAID: NSAIDs are inherently unsafe medications if taken for longer time at a high dose. Celecoxib (Celebrex) is a selective anti-inflammatory medicine and would be the safest of them all.

A few options : Acetaminophen is safe doses may provide some relief for general pains and aches. Depending on type of pain, topical analgesic cream/patches or local injection may be safe and effective. For severe pain from mass effect from the pcos, narcotic analgesics may have to be employed. Discuss with nephrologist/pain management. Certain nerve blocks may be an option.

NSAID Side effects : Nsaid's are relatively safe when used short term  & when there are no underlying contraindications. Side effects may be encountered in short term use, but tend to be more worrisome in the long-term. Gi toxicity, fluid-retention, hypertension, heart, kidney & liver damage, etc. Have all been linked to prolonged nsaid's. Rebound headaches can be seen after a week or 2. Treat the cause, not symptoms.

The only things left: R Tylenol (acetaminophen) and aspirin. These R OTC meds. There are drugs such as neurontin or lyrica. Whom ever she is treating with needs to be up on her past medical history as well as taking note of any comorbidities. The older a person becomes, they need close supervision.

Not prednisone. : The best anti inflammatory is the steroid cortisone or prednisone. An NSAID is a non steroidal anti inflammatory drug.

Acetominophen/narcot: If you are worried about bleeding, you should avoid Aspirin and all of the 'nsaids' - ie, aleve, (naproxen) motrin, etc. About the only otc pain reliever than will not increase bleeding risk is acetaminophen. Narcotics also do not cause bleeding, but these are rarely needed, .
