Whi MRI in first pal: You need to tell us about your general condition as to why was the MRI done in the first place? Contrast is often used but it only enhances to show a lesion better. Most serious abnormalities will show up on MRI even without the use of contrast.  Yet if your symptoms persist, a repeat MRI with Contrast may be necessary. What was your main symptom to do a MRI???

No: The MRI needs to be with contrast. Also, there is no specific findings on MRI that will diagnose vasculitis. An MRI will show white matter lesion consistent with vasculitis but the same lesions are also consistent with several other causes including lyme disease. You should address all of your numerous questions to a rheumatologist.

MRI: An MRI is a sensitive test and if negative it is unlikely that it would miss a tumor of your brain.

Accepted Answer

Depends: Depends on tumor. If there's a lot of calcium in the tumor then, contrast may not be needed to see it. If it's a meningioma then, contrast may not be necessary because of the Dural Tail sign seen on FLAIR images, however, contrast is generally given to PROVE it. But in other cases tumors may be hidden if small, no mass effect, and no contrast. Contrast always best if mass suspected.

Aneurysm show up?: Almost zero. Discuss with team who ordered and review with them.

Most of the time: Usually it does. Most of the time it will show the tumor outright; some very benign or slow growing tumors may be very difficult to see without contrast, but there will usually be clues or some alteration of the anatomy to show that something is not right.

EXPLANATION?: Arachnoid cysts are not uncommon, and involve congenital, lifetime, usually benign and incidental lesions.  These are NOT "brain tumors" and in most cases cause no notable symptoms.  Most radiologist reports reflect accuracy from MRI

Not always accurate: The best imaging to detect brain contrast is an MRI with contrast. Cancers have blood supply so the contrast makes it easier to detect a tumor, especially a small one that otherwise may be difficult to identify.

Yes: Arteries and veins are both seen on non contrast studies also depends on how study is done

Accepted Answer

Not usually: Wisdom tooth surgery should not interfere with MRI exam as long as metal is not very close to  region of interest. Any iron containing metal is usually contraindication to having study.
