Not needed: You wont need a back up method with nitrofurantoin. If it makes you feel better, use condoms for now until you are done your course of antibiotics

B.C. stays effective: The current thinking is that except for rifampin, other commonly-used antibiotics (such as nitrofurantoin and many others) do not alter the effectiveness of birth control pills. This is likely presuming a person is not sick with vomiting or diarrhea, or some other condition that decreases the absorption of a swallowed pill. Not clear yet: You don't take an antibiotic to "head them off at the pass". Hopefully you won't develop a yeast infection. If you do then there are several approaches to dealing with it and discuss it with your doc.

It could: "Antibiotics such as nitrofurantoin may reduce the effects of ethinyl estradiol in some women. If you are using ethinyl estradiol for birth control, you may be at increased risk for pregnancy or breakthrough bleeding." May need to use back up birth control method. i started lo loestrin fe july 8. ive taken it daily since, w/no gaps in between my 1st pack & now my 2nd. i took a plan b abt 2 wks ago after sex w/o condom just to be safe. i then started macrobid next day for a uti. at this point, am i protected?

More estrogen : The Estrogen dose is a little higher on this pill. (30mcg). That helps stabilize the endometrium and can potentially help control irregular bleeding, but it is correlated with nausea, headaches, breast pain, and even heavier periods (but hopefully on-time periods).  If the hormones aren't helping your bleeding, consider seeing a GYN doc for a second opinion.

is junel 1/20 fe and microgestin 1/20 fe the same, pharmacologically, to generess fe?  i'm looking to switch without encountering side effects

Same hormones: But slightly different ratios.  Generess Fe  tablets doesn't come in the 1 mg norethindrone dose.  So your body may very well react different.  You should review this with your doctor, prior to the change.  Best of luck.

i'm on my 2nd wk of my 3rd mth of junel-fe taking continuously to skip periods.i have heavy breakthrough bleeding everyday. how can i make it stop?

Have a period: Using birth control pills continuously will often lead to breakthrough bleeding.  Once you have a period the bleeding should stop.  A higher dose birth control pill may decrease the breakthrough bleeding, or you can use other methods to avoid periods if you need to.

i've taken junel fe 24 bc for 2 yrs i accidentally took2 pills on the same day , 2 weeks ago & my breasts have been sore an gotten bigger ever since?
