No canceer: nicoderm (nicotine patch) patches are used to wean off nicotine. This has nothing to do with the nicotine in cigarrete smoking when the fumes from smoking can induce malignant transformation secondary to carcinogens in the tobacco which when burnt and inhaled can cause problems.

Consult MD: Difficult to know if your Gastritis is related to your smoking.We don't know what you mean by gastritis,what are the symptoms.While we know that smoking can cause hyperacidity,but it depends on the amount of cigarettes you smoke in a day.It is a good idea to stop smoking&amp;nicotine patch will work in some.I suggest you consult your doctor about what is causing gastritis and help with stop smoking

Timed release: Putting the patch on your skin will release the medicine into your skin and then the rest of the body over time.  It is not meant to be as immediate or potent as a cigarette, but to provide steady and lower doses of the drug until you wean off of nicotine.

Cessation is great: Nicotrol (nicotine patch) can be effective in smoking cessation as will the gum, patches, etc.You must want to quit as well. Don't think the nicotine substitute (any form) will do it all. You must meet half way. Go on line for all the smoking cessation sites. I'm sure one will be helpful.
