Usually / not always: Dong quai is generally safe but can cause side effects & should be used with caution in certain circumstances. It can cause sensitivity to the sun. It thins the blood & should be avoided if taking blood thinners or if you have bleeding tendencies. It can cause loose stools & stomach upset in some. It should be avoided in pregnancy & while breastfeeding. But most people tolerate it quite well.
