Milk of magnesia and lactulose are also gentle, safe choices for stool softening in pregnancy. Drink plenty of fluids and advance your diet to include fiber and grains, fruits and vegetables as tolerated.

Need a stool test: If you have no abdominal pains,  are a healthy woman, have had a normal pregnancy , normal CBC and want peace of mind, ask  your doctor to confirm that there is no blood in your stools by doing a "stool Guaiac test" or a "stool Hemocult test" x 3.
