i have started spotting 10 days after the end of my monthly period. it was first brown but now is red. its not now day 19 of cycle and it's not as heavy as period but also not as light as spotting. is this normal? i have never been sexually active.

Hormonal imbalance: There normally is a drop in estrogen levels around mid-cycle that may have become exaggerated in this cycle. You may watch and wait. 
Menstrual irregularities are not uncommon and anovulatory cycle is a common cause. If you miss more than two periods it would be time to see your doctor. If you do not wish to be pregnant, use contraception all the time. You may consider implanted contraceptive or an IUD.

Light period? : What is described may just be ovulatory (light) bleeding, which happens more often with two eggs simulaneously developing, with increased estrogen produced accordingly, causing slight bleeding at the pre-ovulatory drop.  time between periods may be extended at 36 and onward, b/c of delayed ovulation.  Lastly, if pregnancy is possible, obtain a serum HCG test in a week or two.

1st no prob. 2nd?: The first encounter would not result in pregnancy.  You were unclear when the next encounter occurred, so it's possible you were fertile for that one.  If you miss a period, check a home pregnancy test.
