Accepted Answer

Sometimes: If you have a defect that requires surgery as an infant, waiting for it to heal itself is not an option. Some defects such as a small vsd, asd, or PDA may close over time. With small defects you can sometimes take a "wait and see" approach.

Good description: You are accurately describing a "regularly irregular" rhythm which is also called "trigeminy" if the skip is every 3rd beat, and "quadrigeminy" if it's every 4th. This can be of either atrial or ventricular origin. If it recurs, you should have a 24 hour recording of your heart rhythm (holter) to better characterize it.

High BP: High blood pressure will cause these symptoms.  Get a home blood pressure monitor that you can carry with you and check your BP when you get these symptoms.

Yes: yes, but it shouldn't be severe or cause symptoms .otherwise the pregnancy may be causing a normal response to changes in your volume status. some times a mild to mod leak can become severe during pregnancy which be problematic as well.

Premature Beat: You probably have intermittent premature  beats which can occur with stress or excitement.  After the premature beat there is often a short pause and then the heart rate returns to normal  this is probably not dangerous or serious but if you are concerned, see you doctor.

: If you experience inappropriate rapid heart rates or palpitations with exertion, I recommend either wearing an outpatient cardiac monitor to determine heart rates &amp; rhythm during symptoms. Another alternative is to have a treadmill stress test which will also check for possible coronary artery disease as well. Checking for overactive thyroid is also recommended.

i drank four 20 oz. red bulls and now my heart feels funny, what should i do?

Hang in There: Each redbull is 80mg of caffeine, so basically, you had about 760mg of it. The half-life of caffeine is 5-6 hours.  You'll be down to the level of a couple cups of coffee within 12 or so hours. Caffeine toxicity is mostly due to cardiac arrhythmias, but that doesn't usually happen until >3 times the amount you've had, and direct toxicity not until ~25x. Consider this a lesson learned :).

2 + 2: The 2 atria contract simultaneously. The 2 ventricles contract simultaneously.  When the atria contract, the ventricles are resting. When the ventricles contract, the atrial are resting.  Get it?
