No quick answer: Resting the area is the only treatment.  Unfortunately, when you strain a muscle near the ribs, it is impossible to 100% rest is - due to the need of the diaphragm and ribs for breathing... So don't over-do it with activity and be careful with coughing/sneezing and lying on that side while sleeping...

Might be: If you have definitely strained a muscle &amp; the pain is intense it could lead to some nausea, BUT persistent nausea would also be of concern for something else going on such as gallbladder, stomach, liver, or other gastrointestinal problems, which would require more extensive evaluation by Dr &amp; possibly lab testing/xray imaging

Rib pain: Perhaps you are irritating the rib muscle by activity or repetitive injury due to posture problems or sports/work activity.  You are probably re-injuring yourself.

Many reasons: To have spasm in general means the muscles this means the muscle irritated it? The irritation could come from the muscle itself or from the nerve feeding that muscle.
The cause for the first one, injury to the muscles, lack of fitness, overwork those muscles.
Nerve injury, if the nerve to muscles is injured, that leads to the same thing.
