Abnormal EMG?: ...your EMG must have been suggested by MD for a good reason...I strongly believe you should continue a close follow up with the physician to rule out fibromyalgia? early neuropathy?...a neurologist may be consulted...

Twitch: 1: An unexplained twitch suggests you need a consult with a Neurologist.
2: With spring and summer coming up you probably don't need vitamin D or B12. That said, 1000 units of vitamin D per day won't hurt. In the USA a bottle with 120 capsules costs less than 10 US dollars.

what are my chances of having als? normal power and muscle. clean emg of left arm. 41 y/o healthy woman . 55 109 lbsnormal neuro exam. emg and exam by neurologist. only symptoms are twitching occasionally in calves and arches of feet. very scared?

: If a neurological investigation ruled out ALS, your symptoms may be due to minor electrolyte imbalance. Try increasing your intake of fruit juices to add potassium. Unless you have high blood pressure, it may help to add table salt to the juice. Regular aerobic exercise should improve your muscle health.

Comments: Tough to say if your EMG was done properly or thoroughly, and this test has become a "bone of contention" since Medicare sharply reduced doctor fees, inappropriately.  You need to contact the doc who did the study, and ask the specific question you pose, and also, find out what was the outcome.  Good luck.

No.: The technical criteria for EMG regarding ALS is rather complicated but usually requires multiple muscles in 3 limbs.  However, there may have been enough info to rule in another cause of your symptoms.  This is where you need to talk to your doc.  They may be less concerned with ALS than you are.

i have symptoms in every muscle. had an emg done that showed increased insertional activity only in tricep. then had muscle biopsy done that showed abnormal neurogenic changes. now neurologist wants to do a more extensive emg. does that make sense?

: You would probably be best served by having any further testing done after being evaluated by a specialist in neuromuscular disorders at a university hospital department of neurology.
