: Patience. The fluid trapped in the middle ear space will eventually leave over time. It can persist for weeks after all germs are dead. Much of the past medications offered to clear this do no good.

hi, i've had clogged ears following an upper respiratory infection in mid-october and a stuck, dry upper respiratory cough. i don't feel the need to cough anymore, but it's still there. i've been taking mucinex and flonase. is there something else?

: No, you do not need anything else and you should stop all medications by now.

Tincture of time: Tincture of time. 
Use a humidifier or vaporizer.
Take long showers or -- very carefully -- breathe in steam from a pot on the stove.
Drink lots of fluids, which will thin out your mucus and may help prevent your sinuses from getting blocked up.
Use a nasal saline spray – simple unmedicated salt water – to help prevent your nasal passages from drying out.

i have been sick for just over a week now with sneezing, congestion, sore throat, and clogged ears that i cannot pop. im taking augmentin, mucinex d, zyrtec, and ibuprofen. all symptoms seem to be improving except the ears that will not pop. help?

: They will as the secretions lessen and you feel better. Add frequent hot water saline gargles to the treatment. Hope you feel better.

Possibly: If mucus is blocking bottom of Eustacian Tube, preventing pressure from equalizing - than extruding that mucus might allow the ears to pop as pressure equalizes.

is it safe to take mucinex (guaifenesin) every day? it seems to be the only thing that helps unclog my right ear.

Mucenex: It is just fine to take Mucinex (guaifenesin) daily. Mucinex (guaifenesin) is no more then solid Robitussin. The exception to this would be Mucinex (guaifenesin) D which has a decongestant in it. This can still be taken daily but should not be taken more then for a week without a break. This is because the decongestant also artificially stimulates the heart and it is not good for the heart to constantly be having a stimulation.

i am taking mucinex expectorant with guaifenesin1200 mg.  is that going to help the fluid feeling in my ear and the sinus congestion?

NO: Try using an OTC antihistamine such as Zyrtec, Benadryl or Claritin. Expectorants will not help.

Mucinex (guaifenesin) nasal spray: Hello, Mucinex (guaifenesin) nasal spray is the same medication as afrin. It can be useful for eustachian tube dysfunction that will cause ear pressure. Use this medication as directed only for 5days.

i have a sinus infection which makes my head and ears full.  usually take claritin d 12 hour - it helps but quit and tried mucinex.  not good. help,?

Sinusitis: if it has been over 7-10 days you may need antibiotics. you can also try afrin but do not use longer than 3 days. you can also try a nasal steroid like nasonex which are available over the counter now. lastly, try nasal saline rinses and warm sinus compresses.

i am 67 and have bad ringing in my ears for years and getting worse. now i have had what i thought was wax builup after seeing a md he gave me meclizine 25 mg and he also gave me over-the-counter mucinex d. he didn't know i take

Caution: Both Meclizine and nortriptyline can cause sedation as well as anticholinergic effects. Anticholinergic effects can include things like dry mouth, blurred vision, urinary retention and impaired cognition.  Much of this depends on dosing. It would be safest to check with your physician.
