: You may watch and wait. If the "bump" more than doubles in size, ulcerates, bleeds, more bumps develop, you get fever or lose weight, see a doctor.

Avoid: Steroid use near the eye is not recommended.  Try an ice pack or calamine lotion.  Zyrtec (cetirizine) may also help with itch.

Something else?: Mosquito bites are sometime painful, usually itchy but really rare to not heal or get infection.  Could you have gotten bitten by another critter - especially a spider which can cause a non-healing sore place.  You might need this to be looked at.

Mosquito Bites: Avoid scratching. Although a mosquito bite should itch for only a few days, continual scratching will increase your discomfort and may prolong the itching and cause an infection. Try otc hydrocortisone. You should not "pop" the bite as it may already be infected.

Local reaction: Mosquito bites are usually small and localized itchy red bumps on the skin that fade within a few hours to days.  Some people especially young children can have an exuberant reaction to bites which swell up quite large and look "infected." this is alarming, but generally benign and treated with avoidance and aministration of nonsedating antihistamines. They outgrow this with time.

Inflammatory fluid: Most likely it is the fluid between cells( and maybe some fluid leaking out of cells that may have been damaged) that increase after your body starts to react to the bite (inflammation). Mosquitoes do not inject significant amounts of fluid when biting.
