Loss of brain cells: Cerebral atrophy is a loss of brain cells or neurons and their connections.  Some atrophy occurs naturally with aging but more rapid loss is seen with dementia or with a stroke.  The frontal and temporal lobes are especially involved with mood and emotions and less so with motor activity. Cerebral atrophy is a non specific finding and does not explain dizziness.

Variable: Brain atrophy is the term for decreasing size of brain faster than seen in normal aging, and in elderly, might be a sign of alzheimer's.  Can also be seen in other infirmities such as ms, prior repetitive head trauma, spinocerebellar degenerations, and prior brain infections and multiple strokes.  Moderate is a lower grade of extent.  Need to get an underlying diagnosis to address this. See neurol.

Brain atrophy: Doe he have any metabolic and or congenital disorder?
There is no treatment available for brain atrophy as far as i know in adults. You should contact pediatric neurology.

No, this is not: Loss of brain volume, shrinkage of the brain, or atrophy is not specific for alzheimers's , although always seen.  Many demenita's and even parkinson's and alcohol use and even vitamin B12 deficiency can cause brain atrophy.  The atrophy itself is not life threatening, although some would argue that the brain atrophy with "mad cow disease" type dementia's may have an association with mortality.

Yes-at bedtime: Each drug has separate mechanism of action- complement each other . Add gingko biloba as an herb 120mg. Twice daily as well. Side effects of the drugs are many -just read thru them. Ok as long as you have good urine flow.

Brain atrophy: Do not know what the meds are, as these are not names of us products.  But perhaps, he has been labeled as suffering possible alzheimer's disease, and needs meds.  Best to use combinations early, and seems that donepezil 5 mg and memantine 10 mg would be of value.  Check with doc regarding these chemical names.

Shrinkage: A certain amount of atrophy occurs as we age. When atrophy is excessive or is very focused in a specific region of the brain it can indicate a neurodegenerative disorder. For example, in alzheimer's disease focal atrophy can sometimes be seen in the inner part of the temporal lobes (memory regions). In frontotemporal dementia the atrophy is in frontal and/or temporal lobes.
