scalp tenderness, dandruff and hair loss (really really noticeable all over thinning). just started using ketoconazole shampoo for about a week and still have the same symptoms other than dandruff. not sure if i should start fin and minoxidil?

: The first thing to do is to do a family tree for early make or female pattern baldness or hair thinning. It runs in some families and gallops in others.  And treatments don’t help much. Would be good to see a Dr in person who can check for rare/treatable cause of hair loss.

Over the counter: Selsun ( selenium) shampoo will work quite well as directed- this will certainly help with flaking and itching. I am sure that Nizoral shampoo (ketoconazole) is only available as a prescription- consult your private physician.

i have a dry scalp which itches severe after washing hair.i have hair loss too. i'm planning to use 5% minoxidil.can i use tgel and minox together?

Accepted Answer

Can use both : T-gel can be used once to twice per week. While Minoxidil must be used twice per day. I can't say if you will have any problems with using them both using that schedule. Of course washing off the Minoxidil every day soon after applying you will not benefit from it even if you are only a washing with water.

is it ok to use nizoral (ketoconazole) shampoo & advatan cream a day apart from each other or together?

Either way: Nizoral (ketoconazole) shampoo and a topical cortisone can be used on the same day or separated.  It will not decrease the efficacy of treatment.

Technically: I would just use the T gel alone for a month and see if it treats both conditions.

Accepted Answer

No: Begin with a diagnosis, a definition of the type and cause of hair loss. This means consulting a skin specialist. If you derive benefit from use of minoxidil you lose it when you stop. If no benefit, then no penalty for stopping.

i used minoxidil for my patchy beard for 1 m.and now it becomes thinner and more patchy..should i stop using it? or it's normal shedding?what to do?

Not effective: consult your dermatologist- minoxidil was never meant to be used for beard alopecia- it simply will not work.

Accepted Answer

Yes: Absolutely.  This is the same preparation and concentration as marketed for women.
