GERD: Acid reflux causes central sternal burning, bloating, excessive burping and pain. It can be positional and worse at nighttime. Milk allergy is different from lactose intolerance. Milk allergy can cause rapid GI upset but might also have skin rashes, eczema flares, respiratory issues, etc.. Lactose intolerance symptoms are strictly limited to GI upset.

Milk, maybe: To check for reflux and eczema from the milk, i suggest avoiding milk for 3 days; on the 4th day give the baby milk and see if the reflux or eczema worsens.  If it does repeat the avoidance and challenge to confirm.  If either condition worsens, i suggest avoiding for a month and rechecking.  Most such issues resolve with a little time and patience.

my 5 month old has milk allergy and reflux. on neocate and axid (nizatidine) bidx 3 months. at 98% for weight, still in pain, refluxing.. should we scope?

Yes.But ? raises oth: If a five month old child has milk allergies, it has been exposed too early to non-mothers milk.  Formulas do not have animal or human milk, so exposure occurred to early. The infants intestine does not completely digest food, but actually takes in some nutrient whole, by the process of pinocytosis. He allergy can be confrimed by a blood test.  Reflux in a child this young should lead to a "scope".

my 13 week old is on 0.6mls ranitidine for reflux now my doctor think he has a cows milk allergy. he is fussy, wont nap and doesn't sleep through night?

Try to stop milk: Milk allergy can give him all the symptoms you describe.  Ranitidine is a histamine-2 blocker and anything that causes increased histamine in the stomach will increase acid secretion in the stomach and increase reflux.  You can try switching  him to a soy based formula as a first step. But some kids will also develop soy allergy.  If this continue to affect him, have him evaluated by an allergist.

Mysterious cough: When eating kr drinking you are stimulating your olfactory glands which produces mucus. As a result of a postnasal drip you begin to cough. Using saline nose drops before eating might help.

The other way around: Acid reflux may cause uncontrolled bronchial asthma but not the other way around. However, if you have uncontrolled bronchial asthma requiring oral or systemic corticosteroid, acid reflux symptoms can be worse due to the side effects of steroid.

You have complex: Medical condition and your expectation is unique . I believe you need to have one regular physician that you need to see and follow up regularly . It would be inappropriate to give you specific recommendation with out evaluating you properly . Good luck.

Neither: these are two entirely separate conditions.  However, if the reflux is so bad that it reflexes all the way up to the back of the throat it can produce and aggravate allergy symptoms.

Yes: I would be very concerned if my child is gasping for air and struggling to breath in the middle of the night. A variety of lung or heart diseases can cause difficulty breathing. You should bring your child to see a local physician urgently. If it persists, you might want to bring him or her to the nearest er.
