got nipple thrush from baby 4 weeks pp. 20 weeks pp now. baby clear but nipples not. was using nystatin, now miconazole. something wrong with me?

Time to be seen: If your baby is fine and you have not gotten a response from both Nystatin and Miconazole then you probably should have a dermatologist take a look. It is possible that your baby is not entirely clear or this could be something other than thrush.

: in general, the "azole" treatments (miconazole, terconazole, etc) are more reliable than nystatin.

why is it so hard to diagnose skin candida. the infection has proliferated all over my body and present in my blood. the candida swab for thrush shows it is resistent to most antifungals and is sensitive to nystatin and miconazole?

: Yes, you can use the cream and the Diflucan works well also if 150mg tablet.

This is likely: a viral infection, herpes type 1, cold sore.  Vari-miconazole is for fungal/yeast infections, not viral. No harm, but may not help much.

Yes..although: You can, however, if you are only using it externally, you may not fully treat a vaginal infection.  Try an over the counter vaginal treatment such as miconazole.  If this does not resolve in a week, see your physician, and be sure not to use anything for at least 3 days before being seen to present a clear picture.

The white chunky: substance may be a combination of the melted capsule (suppository) and vaginal discharge from the yeast infection itself.  The miconazole should be inserted at bedtime fairly deep in the vagina for maximum effectiveness.  If you inserted it while still up and about or if you didn't put in in far enough, you might need to insert a second one.  Dr. Anne
