Metronidazole dosing: There is a range of doses for metronidazole. Indeed, it is often given three times a day. I think your doctor adjusted your dose to 400 mg -probably based on your [thin] build. So your total dose for one day is 1,200 mg. A common side effect is nausea, particularly if you take too much. If you have questions about your medication -you should definitely talk to the doctor that prescribed it.

Please write back...: Sorry but I'm not clear as to your question. Regardless, metronidazole is typically prescribed at 3-4 times daily for several days for most infections. A large dose is prescribed to be taken just once to treat trichomoniasis in those w/good immune systems. It can also be prescribed as a single large dose for victims of sexual assault as part of multi-drug regimen. Please discuss w/prescribing doc

24 HOURS: I tell all my patients who are taking metranidozole (flagyl) to avoid any alcohol while on the antibiotic and for at least 24 hours after the last dose.  This medicine, when mixed with alcohol, causes severe vomiting, so don't take any chances.  Good luck.
