None.: There are several meningitis vaccines given, mostly to children. They are all safe and necessary vaccines and can prevent unnecessary illness and death. The meningococcal vaccine is mostly given to children at age 10-11 with a booster at 16; pneumococcal and hemophilus influenza B are both given as a series with the regular under 2 year old vaccines. They also may be given to adults at risk.

Hard to say: The available vaccines target the risk pool of teens, late teens &amp; early 20's. These groups by habit &amp; activities are more likely to share the risk. The vaccines could help anyone build immunity to the strains in the vaccine, but the duration of benefit is limited to several years before waning. As a pediatrician who saw a lot of all types of meningitis over decades I never considered getting it

- those whose spleens have been removed surgically
- those exposed in a meningitis outbreak
-adolescents & teens between 11 - 18 years of age.
