Periorofacial dermat: Most commonly young women, a result of topical steroid (mometasone) on the face.Temporarily better when applied but progressively worse rebound reaction. Must stop the steroid even if it looks worse for awhile. Oral doxycycline (minocycline)   in small dose, 50mg a day. Topical calcineurin inhibitor such as tacrolimus or sirolimus will help. May need therapy for a year.

No side effects: Hydroquinone acts to retard to production of melanin in the skin. It is commonly used to lighten uneven pigmentation from sun damage.  2% is a relatively low dose. Most hydroquinone medications are 4%.  Changes Plastic Surgery offers a 7% hydroquinone which is prescription strength.

Do not use these: products with much sun exposure.  Hydroquinone especially is supposed to bleach or whiten your skin, but will darken with significant sun exposure.  Cover up when you are outdoors.  Mometasone is a steroid and will cause infections to worsen if you have infected acne vulgaris or other eruptions.  Tretinoin can also do the same as hydroquinone except more severe, along with burning and skin dryness

Hydroquinone: HC is under review right now.  there has been bad press in Europe and I heard the FDA is reviewing it's safety right now.  I recommend safer products like Lytera made by Skin Medica.
