Not necessarily: A better step would be to figure out what the lump is.  An evalaution by your doctor could help sort this out.  An us of the lump may be a better place to start.

Axillary lumps: Lumps in your axillary (arm pit) areas can be axillary abscesses, infected hair follicles (especially if shaving, etc.), possible inflamed lymph nodes, etc....So it is best to get an evaluation to get the proper diagnoses, so your painful lumps can be treated appropriately. Yes: get it "checked out" You are not silly! Chances are its a benign SEBACEOUS cyst(Very common underarms!) NEVERTHELESS it should be checked out at your age!

Possible staph: Many causes of painful inflammatory conditions of the intertriginous zones of the body (e.g. skin folds). One major cause is recurrent colonization with staph (bacteria) due in part to the local environment which is ideal for bacterial growth. If you are shaving your armpits, you may be introduction bacteria by using or re-using razors which cause trauma of the skin which can lead to "bumps".

Possible Infection: If you are shaving your underarm hair, it is possible that folliculitis has developed.  Reusing a shaving blade that is stored in the shower increases this likelihood.  Consult with a physician for the accurate diagnosis and appropriate treatment.

Have your doctor: take a look at these as it is possible they represent hydradenitis which is an inflammation/infection of the sweat glands in the skin.  In the meantime warm compresses, no shaving and no deodorant.

Have them checked: Tender axillary nodes can be a sign of infection such as a virus but if they are only on one side, you need to see a doctor to rule a more serious cause, .

Lymph nodes?: This is most likely a normal lymph node. If it becomes tender or it is increasing in size I would see your doctor. If it moves around easily under the skin it probably a lymph node. If it seems to be stuck down and immobile this would be more concerning for a malignant process.
