hard lump on rib above my breast. first noticed 2 wks ago. i think it has got slightly bigger. seen doc. u/s clear, waiting x-ray. any ideas?

Breast nodule: The mass is likely in the soft tissue rather than the rib.  This may be fibrous breast tissue which can worsen with caffeine intake and can be associated with menstrual cycle.  At your age, you should have a baseline mammogram and your physician should discuss any family history of breast disease.  Breast MRI may be necessary if all other imaging modalities fail to isolate the area.

Rib evaluation. I is: If you had a previous trauma at that site like a fractured rib then it may be just a healing fracture. If there has been no trauma and you have a painful lump then this should be seen by a doctor fairly soon. Any painful growth on a bone has to be looked at and evaluated.

Inclusion cyst?: Hard to tell a lump since there are many underlying causes.  Have your primary or a dermatologist take a look further.  Typically an inclusion or fatty cysts can be present as well w/o pain.

Skin and bones.: It is important to know if the lumps are on or part of the ribs or in the soft tissues over the ribs or in the cartilage portion of the rib.  Calcinosis (abnormal calcifications) that can occur around bone, joints, and even soft tissues due to diseases or just from benign processes or old injury.  See your doctor about this.

If they cause symptoms or change colors, bleed, bruise or hurt, then see your doctor.

Normal rib cage: Sounds like you have a normal rib cage, which has cartilage at the ends of the bony ribs.  With weight loss, for example, you may notice the prominence of the cartilage more.  It can also calcify partially with age and may be more noticeable.

Depends: Without being able to see/examine the lump, of course, we can't make any kind of diagnosis.  One very commonly seen lump in the body is a lipoma, which is a benign fatty lesion.  If there is pain or discoloration or discharge or redness or any other concerning finding associated with the lump, please see a physician for further evaluation.
