Many things: Low back pain is a very common condition. Causes can range from muscle problems (strain, spasms), bone or joint problems (fracture, dislocation, arthritis, infection), or disc problems (herniation, collapse). A good history and exam by your physician can provide you with answers about the specific cause of your lower lumbar pain.

It depends.: Occasionally your pain can be worse after an injection like an epidural steroid injection (esi).  Occasionally you have had a period of less pain and when the original pain comes back it feels worse.  Rarely its a complication related to the injection like an epidural hematoma or infection.In those with symptomatic pain, there is 70% likelihood that the pain will be adequately managed with esis.

Erect: Sitting erect with a lumbar roll in the hollow of the lower back should give you best chance to relieve lower back pain while seated. But more importantly should find out why you are having lower back pain. See your pcp.

See a Doc: The first thing to do is to get it checked out. For my patients this involves an office visit where i take a detailed history of the problem and ask some very particular questions. This helps me sort things out a bit. Then I do a good physical examination which includes the spine, the joints, and the neurological system. If there have been any kind of xrays or mris or labs we review that.

Depends: Its important to maintain proper body/lumbar mechanics- some people like back support or a small cushion. It should be comfortable to you and not cause additional strain on your back.

Support the back: Everyone is a little different. Certainly, i would get up to stand and  take walks as possible before you even get stiff.  There are "lumbar rolls" that you can get from your chiropractor or physical therapist that support the curve of your back which helps. It would help if the seat could recline a little.  You can also do lower leg exercises and stretches while you are sitting.

You had a procedure: It is not unusual to experience temporary increase in pain after a lumbar injection. The pain should be lessening  after a few days. If this does not happen or your pain increases consult your physician immediately.
