Low back: Tenderness of the low back could come from lumbar muscles, vertebra, or kidney/ureteral origin. If your symptoms persist or worsen see your physician for evaluation and he/she will order the appropriate tests and,if necessary, refer you to a specialist.

rib cage pain on both sides a little under armpit. rib xray negative. only really bothersome when laying on sides at night. diagnosed with costochondritis, however, symptoms persisting. does this take awhile to go away? i do have a heavy toddler?

: Costochondritis is less likely the cause of bilateral rib cage pain below the armpit areas because the costochondral joints are in front of the chest. If you carry your toddler quite often with alternative side, that could be the culprit as you have thought so you just have to stop carry your child for a while until the pain resolves as a trial.

can a ovarian cyst cause lower rib cage pain? i think i have a cyst but an experiencing different pain this time. very bloated, some left side pain and pain under my left rib cage. i also have pcos if that helps any.

Ovarian cyst: An ovarian cyst would have to be extremely large to cause lower rib cage pain. Consider seeing a doctor  for an exam to help determine the cause of your pain. Left sided pain with bloating could indicate a color or GI disorder

Rib pain: Did you fall or have a cold with a lot of coughing.
Sleeping in a poor position too could be the cause.
Take some ibuprofen for a few days, if continues then see your primary care.
Go to emergency department if pain worsens or your breathing becomes difficult

Consider being seen: There are a number of possibilities and if it does not improve, you should consider being seen.  Among the structures on the left side in that area are the lung, ribs, stomach and pancreas, all of which could potentially cause pain.  Costochondritis, which is an inflammation of the rib-cartilage junction is among the more common causes and is quite benign, but you could also have a pneumonia.

Get a physical!: New onset sharp left sided abdominal pain can have many etiologies.  Without a physician history and examination, it is hard to guess the cause.  Musculoskeletal pains, constipation, kidney infection, enlarged spleen, diverticulitis among possibilities....

2: from the ribs, underlying lung or the heart;
3: underlying abdominal structures, like spleen, colon, pancreas, or left kidney.
