before ovulation my temp is in the low 97.0 after ovulation they are in the high 97.0 never go over 98.0 is that bad?

Accepted Answer

No: The expected temperature rise from ovulation is about 1/2 of a degree.  So if your baseline is 97.0 you shouldn't expect a rise over 98.  Best wishes!

i measure bbt. i had 3 risen temperatures for 3 days after ovulation (14th day) & then low temp for 5 days until today. is it normal? what to expect?

Normal: What you described is normal variation during a menstrual cycle and you should expect a normal next cycle unless you engaged in sex at the fertile period, in which case you could be pregnant. If you miss your period, do a home test 4-5 days after missed period, use first morning urine and follow the instructions in the kit, carefully.

my basal body temp ranging from 96.6 to 97.1 before ovulation. and rise up to 97.8 after ovulation. is it a sign of low thyroid?

Not necessarily: But thyroid is very easy for your doctor to check and tell you with certainty.

is it true that after ovulation it takes 12-24 hours for bbt to rise? and thus, if you ovulate at night or even late afternoon, your morning temp may not show it yet?

Accepted Answer

Possibly: Temperature charts are less reliable than ovulation predictor kits.  These are available over the counter, simply test by holding the stick in your urine stream.

Normal: All of those temps are normal; i don't believe you're seeing a true 'spike' bit rather a normal fluctuation.

Accepted Answer

Yes: In fact, because sperm can live a few days inside your body, you can get pregnant anytime from a few days before to a few days after ovulation. You don't have to wait for exact day of ovulation in order to try to get pregnant. If you're trying to get pregnant, start taking prenatal vitamins to minimize your risk for neural tube defects eg spina bifida. Otherwise, use protection, preferably 2 forms.

No: Of course you might possibly be pregnant; but body temperature tells you zero about 'yes' or 'no..'.

Accepted Answer

Hormonally linked: Its due to the LH surge and the array of hormonal changes that results in a slight shift in basal body temperature.

9 days post ovulation (bbt rise & cm changes), bbt rose again- very high. now 18 dpo, hpt negative at 15 dpo. i'm not sick or on fertility meds. if corpus luteum cyst, why the sudden increase in temp?

Uncertain ovulation: Many things can affect your temperature readings.  My guess is that you ovulated later than you calculated or not at all. Check another pregnancy test and watch for next period. A Progesterone level would also tell if you ovulated.

my bbt is constantly low, around 35.7celcius the 36.2 post ovulation.  is this normal? im usually really cold all the time.

It can be: We base our "normal" vital sign values, including temperature, on a sampling of people. Everyone is wired differently, however. Your temperature set point may just be lower than most people's. As long as you don't have other symptoms, you probably have nothing to be worried about. Hope this helps!
