Gastroenterologist: I would be suspicious of gluten intolerance or sensitivity. Other possibilities include lactose intolerance or irritable bowel syndrome. I would be reluctant to attribute your bowel symptoms to gastroparesis. Consult a gastroenterologist for diagnosis, treatment and dietary advice.

Constipation is : Probably more common early on. Early pregnancy sxs can include: lack of period, breast swelling ; tenderness with darkened areolas, fatigue, increased urination frequency, constipation, bloating, heartburn, backache, cramping, headache, food cravings or aversions, increased sense of smell, enlarged waist, feeling faint/dizzy, mood swings, increased gas, insomnia, gagging more easily ; yawning.

If on IRON: The iron in the prenatal vitamin, or if you are even on a supplemental Iron pill can cause the stool to be black.  Call your GYN to assure you are on an iron supplement.  If so, most likely fine, but at next visit, you could always have your stool checked for heme to be safe.  Best wishes.

Go to Hospital: When you are having loose stools and cramping in pregnancy, it is important to make sure that your baby is Ok and that you are not dilating. Watch for baby movements and go right away to the hospital birthing center. All will be well. It is better to be safe.

Diarrhea after meals: Loose stools after meals may be due to lactose intolerance, which is more common after 30.  Avoid milk or milk products (foods containing lactose) as a trial, but if loose stools persist, as your physician for medication.  Hemorrhoids are common at 34 weeks of pregnancy, as the weight of the fetus obstructs hemorrhoidal veins, causing local clots. Consult your OB for treatment.

Duration?: Hi. Are these symptoms new or chronic? If acute, you may just have a GI bug that will clear itself within days. If chronic, you need to consider things like inflammatory bowel disease, celiac disease, etc. Any mucous and/or blood in stool? If it's chronic, or doesn't resolve promptly, please see your doc. Outbreaks may involve bacteria (salmonella, shigella, c.Perfringens, c.Botulinum, b.Cereus, v.Parahaemolyticus, campylobacter, staph aureus), virus (norwalk, hepatitis a), chemical (ciguatoxin, scobrotoxin, mushrooms, heavy metals), water contamination (giardia, s.Typhi), others. Watch out for "traveller's diarrhea" (especially etec).
