what are the long term effects of carpal tunnel surgery?

Accepted Answer

Minimal: Carpal tunnel surgery, which is basically decompression of the median nerve at the wrist, if done properly is highly effective and has minimal long term downside. In fact, there is minimal short term downside. Most patients can start to use the hand shortly after surgery.

does knee dislocation have any long-term consequences?

Accepted Answer

Yes : Potentially post traumatic arthritis can occur.
If you have just a knee cap dislocation, it may predispose you to future dislocations and anterior knee pain and arthritis.  If it is your whole knee joint that dislocates, you risk nerve, vessel and ligament injury.  This is a much more severe injury than just a patella dislocation.

Should already know: The best answer is since you already had the surgery  , would you not have asked this question before hand and probably was explained in the consent form you filled out. If not ask the physician who did the surgery.

54 years old.  just ran first half marathon.  periods stopped mid training 2 months before race.  2 weeks after race period returned and now bell bleeding for 7 days.  never bleed longer than 4 days historically. is this normal?

Longer period: I would assume the the uterine lining built up more than usual when you had missed periods and now longer shredding of the built up lining is occurring. A gynecologist could advise you best on this matter.

does me having mild-moderate acne longer (ages 14-21.. 7 years) mean theres less of a chance i will outgrow it in my mid twenties? im a male.

Acne: No, not necessarily. How long your skin will have frequent breakouts is not possible to predict. Why are you anusol? steroid creams are not a treatment for acne and I don't see any other conditions listed to justify chronic use of this medication. Whats important is to treat acne as it occurs to minimize inflammation, scarring and pigmentation.

i have been taking 1 mg alprazolam 4 times a day since the mid 1980s. my insurance company tells me it is no longer in their formulary. what options?

Check formulary: Unfortunately there is no way for us to know what medications will be covered on your insurance with the provided information.  The best option is to check with your insurer to find out the formulary alternatives. Then the medication can be changed. Be aware though that other medications may have different effects so adjustments may need to be made.

Likely Normal: mirena (levonorgestrel) tends to cause irregular bleeding initially after placement which then usually resolves over a few months.  If you are having increased pain or fever, it could be due to infection however and if you are concerned, you should contact your doctor.  Congrats on choosing an excellent method of contraception!

what would cause torso to grow longer/lengthen in someone in their mid-30s? my shirts are shorter than 10 yrs ago. doesn't torso stop growing in 20s?

Accepted Answer

Yes: Yes, it would be unheard if to grow that late in life.  The growth plates in makes usually close anywhere between 14-21 years of age.  Has there been any change in your weight or conditioning that may be contributing?  I would start by just getting a good medical checkup.
