Abdominal symptoms: The causes of your symptoms can be multiple. You may need more than just an ultrasound of your abdomen. Ct abdomen, upper endoscopy or ERCP (endoscopic procedure looking at the bile ducts) may be needed. Viral hepatitis (a/b/c) serologies (blood test) would be helpful too.

doc put me on lamisil (terbinafine) 250mg for 2 weeks for nail infection. before i start med, ggt 78, ast 21, alt 28. worried about liver damage. any problem?

Lamisil (terbinafine): Liver functions are normal. A few weeks of Lamisil (terbinafine) should not be a problem.

Need for evaluation: Sgpt of 40, by itself is not that abnormal; however unintended weight loss is always a cause for concern and you should see your doctor for an evaluation.

High liver enzymes: First of all we need to know why your liver enzymes are elevated. Some time it could be temporary elevation from medication, that might normalize with discontinuation of that particular medication. If it is because of any other liver disorder it may or may not completely gets back to normal based on the status of the liver involvement.

using grisovin for fungal ear infection,my liver blood test shows sgpt level at 59 ,is it a high value,is it good to use grisovin in the long term?

Anti fungal: SFPT of 59 is high can be because you are taking anti fungal medication it is not good to take it on a long term basis however if you do need to make sure you get a complete blood count and liver functions checked frequently

Unusual: Uti, per se , doesn't cause elevated liver enzymes unless the patient develops an associated septick shock (disseminated infection) with very low blood pressure to cause a liver shock/injury. Alternatively antibiotic used to treat UTI may cause drug induced hepatitis. There is many other causes of elevated liver enzymes and sometimes a liver biopsy may be required to find the exact cause.

ALT: Alanine transaminase or SGPT is an enzyme predominantly concentrated in the liver, and released from dying hepatocytes. Elevated levels in the bloodstream may suggest liver injury due to many possible causes. Doubt that this is related to her urinary tract infection. You need to see a pediatrician and have her examined and evaluated asap. Good luck and hope this resolves quickly.

Viral infection: Often times this can be caused by a viral infection.  It should definitely be watched to see if it comes down on it's own.  If not, further testing incuding an ultrasound should be done to make sure nothing is blocked, like the gallblader tubes.
