Diet  important: Bloating occurs in nearly all patients with irritable bowel syndrome, and it also occurs in patients with  functional and organic disorders. Effective treatments are limited and are not universally successful. GI generally follow a stepwise approach, formulating the treatment plan with the patient in order to improve compliance. Symptoms, although uncomfortable and frustrating, but usually benign.

What's the cause?: Doctors define constipation as stools less frequently than once every 3-4 days. Patients feel they are "constipated" when passing hard or small volume stool, or they feel full ; bloated. Had an x-ray to show you're not blocked?  We don't know if your gut is sluggish or your rectum works correctly, or if there is something extrinsic to the gut causing problems. Your answer comes from evaluation.

Maybe IBS, but...: The GI tract has a very limited # of symptoms to signal its distress--nausea/vomiting, diarrhea/constipation, bloating, pain, fullness, bleeding, etc. As you know, many of these characterize ibs, but are also seen with inflammatory, infectious, ischemic, malabsorptive, and functional disorders. Directed lab work, imaging, biopsies, stool studies are appropriate in excluding non-ibs pathology.

Most likely: Lentils are essentially peas.  Beans and peas are notorious in some persons to cause increased gas and bloating.  I know of no reason for lentils not to do the same.  Try some beano, phazyme-95, mylicon gas or other antiflatulent if this is an issue for you.

Yes: Long courses of antibiotics can disrupt the normal bacterial load in the intestines which can eventually lead to some bloating. This is common in many patients. It's important to take probiotics which can help stabilize this symptom.  Have your provider examine you and determine if you should have your antibiotics reduced or changed.  Keep in mind there are many other causes of bloating.

Excess calcium : Can cause constipation and thus bloating. Make sure you are drinking plenty of caffeine free/alcohol free fluids to avoid the constipation effect of the calcium if you really need it or cut back on your calcium intake.

Sometimes: Antibiotics can affect the normal intestinal flora and put the normal colonies of bacteria in your gut into different ratios.  This can cause pain and bloating.  Try supplementing with probiotics and the problem should subside after the completion of the antibiotics.

Doubtful: Flucoxacillin, an antibiotic, shouldn't cause weight gain. It, like many medications, can affect digestion and may cause bloating,gastric irritation, or diarrhea.

Not related : Uterine fibroids would not be a cause of bloating per se. See gynecologist for fibroids. See GI for bloating evaluation.

Could be several: Watch your diet. Avoid foods which make your symptoms worse. Eat small portions and avoid eating large meals at a time. Try over the counter probiotics. You need a GI evaliation if symptoms have been going on for some time. Hope this helps.
