It it looks bacterial then an oral cephalosporin, quinolone, amoxicillin/clavulanate.

Exception:  mono is a virus that can cause a severe case that can last for weeks !  with viral tonsillitis, there is no specific treatment.  General treatment includes steroids to decrease swelling, pain medications (tablets or numbing gargles).  Drink plenty fluids, rest plenty, take Ibuprofen for fever.
