can i be pregnant if i had a shorter (3days) and lighter period than usual. my norm periods are 7 days & aren't light til the last 2/3 days?

Can do a preg. test: Maybe yes. Maybe no. A urine pregnancy test, done correctly, gives a reliable result 3 weeks after sex (3 weeks after when conception might have occurred), or 1 week after missing a period, or after having a "weird" period. If done sooner, a positive result is likely real, but a negative result may be due to testing too soon, and thus lead to a repeat test.

Not sure.: The main reason for light periods is a change in hormone levels. Causes for what seems to be a light period can include: implantation bleeding in early pregnancy, thyroid problems, eating disorders, excessive exercise, initial periods for a girl, use of an intrauterine device, oral contraceptives ; perimenopause.

If u are preg: It is not a period but u can be pregnant and have 1st trimester bleeding so please check a urine preg test, if neg. Then do a blood one.

Unlikely: Current Bilateral Tubal Ligation procedures include cutting out section of tubes, burning ends, then applying metal clip to end, which makes natural reattachment almost impossible, and surgical reattachment very difficult.

Could be: Menses can be variable first months of a pregnancy. Do a home preg. test!!

Midcycle spotting: This is midcycle spotting. Your physician may wish to check for fibroids or polyps. If your cycles are irregular, this might be expected.

Test again: Your HCG level may not have been high enough to produce a positive test.  Repeat it.  Sounds like you may be pregnant and hope that is desirable.

Light period : Are you sexually active? Check pregnancy test. if not active it may be variation or could check for polycystic ovarian syndrome

Some thoughts...: Many women have occasional variation of their mucus discharge, some spotting between periods, a heavier period, a lighter period, a longer or shorter period, or even a missed period.  Having one or two of these symptoms doesn’t necessarily mean there is a medical problem, but a call to one’s primary care or Ob-Gyn doctor is a good idea if symptoms are persistent, recurring, or worrisome.
