No: Lichen planopilaris is a "scarring" alopecia, in which hair follicles are damaged and form scar tissue, leading to permanent hair loss in affected areas. Aside from topical steroids, dermatologists can also inject steroids into the affected skin (those injections are not considered systemic therapy). Some websites list retinoids and antimalarial drugs as having been used for lichen planopilaris.

No free lunch: There's no such thing as a free lunch. Medically speaking, that means that we always need to balance desired benefit against potential risk. In this case, your Dermatologist prescribed antibiotics to deal w/skin condition (but at risk of developing antibiotic resistance, vaginal yeast infection and/or C diff diarrhea). So please discuss your concerns w/him/her &amp; your Family Doc &amp; ID specialist too

It may be associated with multiple endocrine disorders.

Address underlying: Lsc is caused by repeat scratching of an area with resultant "lichenification" with skin thickening and woody appearance with enhanced skin markings. If you have eczema in that area that led to lsc, you might be a good candidate for moisturizers as well as topical steroids or immunomodulators. The important thing is to get the underlying disease that led to lsc under control.

None: Diet is important. But no diet has any effect on lichen sclerosis. Potent prescription topical steroids are very effective and very safe.
