Just one retreatment: For head lice, treat every affected person on the same day. Remove all the bugs and nits from everybody's hair. Just using the medication (such as nix (permethrin)) is not enough . . . One must remove the bugs and nits. Each day, check everybody's hair for remaining nits to remove. After 7-10 days, treat with nix (permethrin) again, and do hair checks every day for one week after that. Then, do hair checks occasionally.

Several things: If you rinse your hair daily with copious amounts of a stiff vinegar,( pickling vinegar does well), this can loosen the eggs attachment to hair. Combing the eggs out with a nit comb will then have more success.If you do that for a  week &amp; then try the OTC product it may work better.If not there are some prescription meds for the resistant lice.

Head lice: Over the counter head lice medication is very effective for removing head lice.  My mother used this medication to remove head lice from the grand children.

Little bugs.: This can be very frustration, and I certainly feel for your distress. Have you tried prescription medication and have you seen your physician?  If you manage to find one or many of these insects, please capture them put them in a bag and deliver them to your physician.

Not appropriate: Lice medication is over the counter and has multiple names.  See your drugstore.  If you are uncertain about the diagnosis see your doctor and she will prescribe medication for you with detailed instructions regarding your clothing, sheets, towels, and laundry in general as well as your household.  It is infectious and contagious.

Takes time: The bumps appear as a skin reaction to the debris left in the tunnels the scabies leave under your skin.That reaction does not stop at the point of treatment, since it may take a couple of days to show up.It is a little early to worry about treatment failure. Give it another week, and your sites ought to be healing. Re-infection is a possibility if bed linen and clothes have not been cleared.

Kerosene: When I was a child, my mom used kerosene on my head to kill (suffocate) the lice. I survived and it worked. Whether you should use it or not, I don't know. Definitely, not recommended in the US, but in Europe it's used as a home remedy.

We don't have an answer to the louse or egg question, so we don't know which came first. A person has to get a louse or an egg that hatches into a louse, in order to get infested. A louse can be on furniture, hair brushes, or clothing, but it most likely jumps from one person's hair to another's.
