Malalignment: Normally when you look at the low back of a person from the side there is a small curve known as lordosis.  When this curve is reduced or straightened it can be from muscle spasm which tends to straighten out the normal curves in the spine.  When you look from the back, the spine is normally straight, but in scoliosis it is curved.  It may take an MRI to determine the cause of your condition.

Likely is normal.: The spinal cord normally terminates at t12-l1 level, with spinal roots continuing more inferiorly. 

The spine curvature may be normal for this patient.

Herniation and spasm: One way to describe those findings is you have a herniated disc likely associated with spasm.  When paraspinal muscles go into spasm, the lumbar spine straightens out somewhat losing its normal contour.  I would not hesitate to be seen to discuss treaent options.

excruciating lower back pain (left side) for months, always hurting. when i get up from sitting position, cannot walk right away. took x-ray. what does non acute findings, early arthritic changes to the lumbar spine and mild curvature, scoliosis mean?

: It means you have early signs of west &amp; tear in the spine, in addition to mild curvature that is consistent with scoliosis. These are not new findings (nonacute) and have likely been there a while. These findings are not uncommon in folks who have no pain, so they may have nothing to do with your pain. Please follow up with a clinician to discuss further evaluation &amp; management of your pain.

Depends on details: The presence of a tilt on an X-ray does not necessarily mean scoliosis. There can be positional curves which show up on imaging that have to do with either posture or muscular tension. Scoliosis represents a curvature to the spine which reflects an abnormality of how the bones interact with each other. This difference can be subtle. A trained radiologist can tell the difference.

Paraspinal Muscles?: Paraspinal muscles position the spine. Keeping these healthy reduces arthritis, disc and nerve (radiculopathy) problems. 
I have severe lumbar arthritis, Not getting surgery. I do core strengthening and flexibility exercises every day. 
Google exercises on core muscular strengthening, low back mobility, hamstring stretching.
Then do the exercises as often as needed. Every day is not too often.

Overlapped ??: An "overlapping" lumbar spine is not a recognized diagnosis.  Whomever suggested this is likely not a physician.  If you have a symptomatic problem with your lumbar spine see an orthopaedic surgeon or start by seeing your pcp.

A few diagnosis can: Relate to lumbar spine straightening. The most common is paraspinal or ilipsoas spasms are the most common cause. Other issues can be related as well, including postural issues, inflammatory issues such as ankylosing spondylitis, or sacral issues that can lead to lumbar straitening. Hope that helps!
