i have started taking levlen-ed one week ago on the first day of bleed, it still shows no sign of going 1 week later, is this normal?

Unclear question: If levlen (ethinyl estradiol and levonorgestrel) is for birth control, then should start on the end of your menstrual period.  If the med is to stop bleeding, then you should take it three times a day, bleeding should  stop in 3-5 days.

been on levlen for many years and always had a period the same flow and always lasted for 5 days. last few months its down to 1 spotting day, the one normal heavier day then spotting the day after (3days total, 1 real day). what could cause this?

: Menstrual irregularities are not uncommon and anovulatory cycle is a common cause. If you miss more than two periods it would be time to see your doctor. If you do not wish to be pregnant, use contraception all the time. You may consider implanted contraceptive or an IUD.

Not likely: All birth control pills work in a similar way as they all contain estrogen and progestin.  Studies have shown that some women may gain few pounds when they start taking the pill but this reverses by the end of 6 months of usage.  Weight gain of greater magnitude should not be blamed on the pill except in very unusual circumstances.

Sure, some have: Hormonal manipulations, including birth control pills can affect weight gain (or loss). Some people have had more change than they want.  Check that there aren't other factors at work, e.g. Emotional eating affected by the hormonal changes of the bcp. Check with your doc.

have been taking levlen ed for 2 years. took it tonight and ever since have been feeling severely nauseous. i chew them as i struggle to swallow pills. why am i feeling so sick after taking it when i was feeling perfectly fine before?

: "Levlen ED" is a combination type oral contraceptive.  If taken other than in the first several days of a menstrual period, and/or if periods are not regular (24-32 days apart),  nausea may not be due to "Levlen ED", as pregnancy may be possible.  See your gyn physician for an exam and serum HCG test to be certain about pregnancy.

ive been taking femme-tab ed 20/100 pill for over 9 years and im about to change to levlen ed 30/150. should i notice any effects on body weight /skin/ emotions?

: It is possible because of higher hormone doses with the new tablet but body reaction to medication varies significantly among people so you have to wait and see. Good luck.

: You could shift from 7pm to 8am when you start the next cycle of pills and it should be equally effective.

i have started levlen on the first day of my cycle this month. first time. my period now is on day 12... still bleeding... is this normal for the first time of taking pill? when do i expect my period to stop? im scared it will continues for a month.

Oral bcp ?'s: If pregnancy was possible PRIOR to starting the bcp's, get a serum HCG test to be certain.  If negative, make sure you are taking the Levlen punctually (within the hour of taking the daily active pill).  The bcp's are very low dose, and any variation in timing can precipitate bleeding. Stop the pill, wait five days and start a new pack if the HCG is negative.

do you need to use alternative forms of protection if you have 1 bout of diarrhoea 1hr after taking levlen?

Accepted Answer

: Using oral bcp's, a one day absence of taking the "active" bcp's will not detract from the protection from the bcp's.  Diarrhea after taking Levlen will not completely diminish the effect of the ingested pill.  To be "safe", use other contraception for the remainder of this cycle.
