Many possibilities: First, menses change with age and you're just now over puberty and into truly adult cycles.
Second, everything else affects them!

Irregular period: You have a history of irregular periods , followed by 3 months of regular periods and now bleeding for 3 weeks.  You should be evaluated by a gynecologist to stop the bleeding. Moving forward, sounds like you may have gone back to having irregular periods.  If you and your husband are not planning on conceiving right away, your cycles could be regulated with birth control pills or Nuvaring.

Not ovulating: Some women naturally have irregular periods. This is usually caused by infrequent (not regular) ovulation. The longer you go between periods, the thicker the lining builds. When you finally do have your menses it can be heavy and long. Periods can become irregular if you've recently gained weight. BCPs can keep your menses regular. If you're trying to conceive then you may need fertility meds.

Unclear question: What is the question? Cycles can vary in length for many reasons. A 37 day cycle will suggest you ovulated on day 23.

Oral contraceptives: Sometimes oral contraceptive use can delay your menstrual cycle.  You will need to see a doctor and discuss with them starting ocps and how you can adjust your use to delay a cycle.

Pregnant?: The first possibility is that you are pregnant.  I would advise taking an over-the-counter pregnancy (urine) test purchased at your local drug store. If you are not pregnant, then it sounds like you have stopped ovulating. Need more info: Assuming you are on birth control pills, you may be able to delay your period by skipping the last week of your pill pack and starting immediately on day 1 of a new pack.    The last week a pill pack usually gives the signal to have a period.  If you skip the signal, you may be able to avoid a period during this special time.   If you are not on the pill, ask the question again with this info.

Birth control pills?: I do not completely understand your question, but it appears that you are modifying your birth control pills.  This is certainly safe and effective, although nothing is 100%.  The general principle is to eliminate the placebo portion of your prescription.  This is often done for three months at a time.  The doctor who prescribed your medicines can probably help with this

See a doctor: This could be a miscarriage and even if it's not, if the bleeding is getting heavier and not stopping, it can cause serious problems.
