All around: Lymphatic system absorbs/carries things too big to go into the arteries/veins like bacteria eaten by white cells and digested food. Lymph nodes "taste" the lymph for anything bad  like bacteria/viruses/cancers, etc. When it detects a problem, it alerts the immune system and your body reacts.  They enlarge in response to the inflammation they create when they react.  They shrink when all is well.

Baker's cyst: Your description could be many things but sounds like a baker's cyst.  Go see your regular doctor.

Bite reaction: This is a significant reaction. Not common but happens. May indicate associated infection. If persists get checked.

Cellulitis of groin: It sounds like you have classical symptoms for cellulitis - a skin injury, followed by redness, pain and induration (hardness of the skin). You should show this to a doctor, because depending on how bad it is -you may well need treatment. I'd slather it in bacitracin now and call your doc to be seen. The lymph nodes might need to respond if it's bad enough (they are garrisons of the immune system)

Infection????: I would recommend you see your medical doctor and have them evaluated. Make sure it is the lymph nodes for starters. The lymph nodes are your bodies filters. Something is causing them to swell, you need to find out why.

: Melanoma spreads first to the lymphatic system most typically the nearest lymph node or sentinel node. Bone metastasis while common tend to be a later metastatic site.

Lymph nodes: When looking at lymph nodes with ct or MRI we look at size and number.  Sometimes they are too big, or there are too many.  Without knowing your history it is difficult to determine what is going on.  It could just be the way you are, due to local inflammation, or many other things.

is it normal to feel inguinal lymph nodes in thin 2 yo? also he has a red bumpy rash in the crease of leg that extends a little down the leg. ideas?

Rash: The rash in the crease of his leg is  eczema. Theinguinal nodes are present because of low grade infection from scratchingeczema.

is this normal or not?

Accepted Answer

Lymphadenopathy: Lymph nodes swell and fluctuate usually due to the inflammatory reaction of infection. Pain also usually means infection and not cancer. If bacterial in origin, then antibiotics may help. If it persists beyond a month, you should see someone who can evaluate it with a needle aspiration bx or similar diagnostic procedure.
