my left eye upper lid has been twitching for 2 months now. i get plenty of sleep and does not consume any caffeine. what could be the problem?

Doctor can examine: Twitching of an eyelid, which happens in normal people, may be myokymia (an involuntary, spontaneous, quivering of a few muscle cell bundles within a muscle). Myokymia starts and stops spontaneously. In the eyelids, it can last a few minutes to a few days. One should see an ophthalmologist (MD eye doctor) if such symptoms persist, keep recurring, or are combined with any other symptoms.

Eyelid twitch: For most young healthy people, an eyelid may twitch for hours or sometimes days and then go away, and geneally it is nothing to worry about.  You may need more rest, less coffee, or an evaluation if it is causing your eye to close or causing pain, but usually these (blepharospasms) just show up and then go away without any clear cause or concerns.

Leave it alone: There is no reason for alarm.  These things happen to everyone.  As long as you are otherwise healthy, and not concerned about medicine side effects, you will be alright.

If you are not that healthy or you use suspicious medicines, it may help to have lab tests or a medicine list review.

Neurology : The eye lid twitching is very likely to be a benign process commonly seen with eye straining while reading, poor sleep quality, or caffeine intake. It is not related to the brown discharges. For that you should check with your physician or gynecologist. Hope you feel better soon.

Lid Myokymia: Twitching of the lid is usually associated with fatigue or dry eyes, but any irritation of the trigeminal nerve (CN 5) could cause a reflex contraction of the orbicularis oculi muscle (CN 7 - facial nerve) , resulting in a fasciculation of the lid. In most cases this is benign, and relieved with rest and artificial tears. See an ophthalmologist for an eye examination if persists with new glasses.

Swollen eyelid: Try warm compresses, ocusoft lid scrubs, and artificial tears first.  If no improvement, go see an eye doctor.
