"struggle": Any child or teen who is struggling needs help of some kind. It may be motivational, tutorial, medication, counsel, a stable/supportive fam environment, or whatever. The criteria of learning disabilities vary. The key is to determine what type of help is needed, and then provide it. Some have cognitive limits that can be sorted out thru prof testing, but they can still improve performance w/ help.

The mildness ofmthe disability does not mean it will cost les it could cost more. Mild LD may be harder to pinpoint and may take more time to find. If so, then testing can determine how great the gap is between your overall IQ and your abilities in that particular area--reading, math, writing, e.g.  Ld requires a large gap between those two numbers.  Finding calculus hard, e.g., would not count.
