Avoid triggers: like spicy food, citrus, tomato sauces, try an over the counter antacid like Nexium (esomeprazole) or Prilosec.  When you lie down, gravity encourages stomach acid to come up the esophagus.

: Your symptoms are more characteristic of a musculoskeletal cause in the rib cage or pinched intercostal nerve that runs between 2 ribs. Other causes such as heart,lung or esophageal causes are quite unlikely. Could you have strained or injured your rib cage recently? Any tender spots? If symptoms don't resolve see your physician for evaluation and any appropriate testing.

Nausea is caused: By biochemical changes in the brainstem that organizes many automatic functions in the body. Commonest cause by far is lousy diet, particularly the empty calories from sugar, desserts, candy, pop (even diet) when you eat, a message goes from the stomach to the brain and the irritable brain reacts abnormally by causing nausea.

Try prilosec: Try a prilosec before bed or 30 minutes before your largest meal of the day. You can buy this at the drug store. It sounds like you are having reflux. If this does not take care of the problem, see your doctor. Also try to get to optimal weight, eat smaller meals, don't eat 3 hours before bedtime, avoid alcohol, tobacco and acidic foods.

GERD: Reflux can cause that.  Try an antacid for a couple of weeks and see if it goes away.
