Emotional lability: You will be surprised by my answer. Our emotions are generated in the lower part of the brain known as the limbic system. A mild degree of oxidative stress in this system makes it very reactive. Thus the emotions are normal but grossly exaggerated. Please see my blog "oxygen, the spark of life" stop all forms of sugar!

Not really: While those patients who go to sleep very distressed tend to wake up that way, the opposite is not true. Most patients come awake very gently and slowly. You most likely will too. Talk to your anesthesiologist about your fears before the operation. Good luck.

However,  neurologic disorders, such as pseudo bulbar affect, can result in inappropriate affective responses. If antidepressants are not effective, a neurologic workup is indicated.

Needs tratment: Yes it needs to be treated by a Psychiatrist.You may need therapy with and without drugs as there may be underlying depression.It can also be a sign of Pseudo Bulbar Affect but in that condition you will have these episodes more frequently than only two times a year.Discuss with your Doctor or Psychiatrist

Good question: It doesn&#x27;t seem to make sense to me, but there may well be other pieces to the puzzle that would make it logical.  Best to ask your doctor why and to seek another opinion if you aren&#x27;t satisfied with the answer.
