Label: Check the label on the package it should give you an estimate. Since supplements such as this are not FDA regulated you never really know what is in them. Kelp is another name for seaweed. A good source of iodine.

: There are many sources of iodine apart from sea kelp. If you Google sources of iodine you would be able to get meaningful information for you.

Iodine deficiency: Try kelp. Lugol' s may leave you with a metallic taste in your mouth, running  nose or a rash.

Kelp: Kelp is not a good  idea. Stay with thyroid meds!

No: You need to take thyroid replacement medication such as synthroid (thyroxine) or levothyroxin.

Iodine does that: Iodine is infamous for causing rashes. Your physician is familiar with this, and can tell whether this is one of the iodine rashes, or whether you need to look for another cause. A more important question -- how do you feel?  As a pathologist, i'm always remind people, "don't treat the lab values."  best wishes.

i have thyroid issues that wont show up on bloodwork, would it help if i took kelp or other vitamins with iodine in it, my mother had thyroid problems?

Normal Blood Test?: If your blood test for thyoid disease, which includes tsh, free T4 and t3 (liothyronine) is normal, so what is the issue with your thyroid.
Taking vitamins and iodine is not going to help.Whatever your issues are, you should discuss with your doctor.
Do you have a goiter, nodule?
See your doctor with your concerns.

can too much iodine cause hair loss in someone with hashimoto's ? when i was taking kelp or multivitamins i was noticing that i was losing a good amount of hair. when i quit, the hair loss ended?

: Hair loss is common.in thyroid disorders especially if there was a prolonged period without effective treatment. The hair loss is diffuse &amp; usually improves after appropriate treatment but can take some time. Excess iodine intake can cause goitre, hypothyroidism or hyperthyroidism.

Iodine: While iodine can interfere.with treatment of an overactive thyroid condition, it shouldn't interfere with medications used to treat the underactive thyroid of Hashimoto's thyroiditis. Your pharmacist can verify this for you.

i took way too much kelp powder for about 2 wks. got tired, weak, achey, out of sorts. have stopped it - how long till i feel better again?

Since Kelp: contains significant levels of IODINE it may have had an effect on your THYROID hormone production...that effect can last for a while and i would consult your PCP (POrimary Care Provider) and perhaps have some thyroid function tests to see if thats what is effecting your energy levels!
