Hangover: Hangover can be related to amount of alcohol consumed and amount of sleep. The more alcohol you consume, the more of a hangover.  Dehydration, blood vessel dilation, stomach irritation and acid production, drop in blood sugar, are a few of the reasons for hangover.  Avoid too much alcohol consumption to avoid hangovers.

Sorta kinda: In low doses (1 standard drink=6 oz. 10% wine, 1 1/2 oz 40% distilled sprits=12 oz 6% beer) - 2 drinks/day for men, 1 drink/day for women and older men, and no more than 4 drinks on one occasion, alcohol may have a beneficial effect on raising the "good" cholesterol hdl. Red wines, with resveratrol, may have a slight edge, but so does red grape juice. Above that amount, it does more harm than good.

Alcohol: Too much of a good thing is no good for you.
Yes you can take alcohol from time to time but be very cautious and check your blood sugar before you drink it.
Checking it again two hours later would also be helpful.

Not methanol: The only drinking alcohol is ethyl alcohol and this is what is contained in most potable beverages.  It is not so much the type of drink you are using as it is the amount of ethanol you are consuming on a regular basis.  Alcohol is generally harmful only when used to excess.  A bottle of beer usually contains about the same amount of etoh as a shot of whiskey.
