Move it Back: The ball of the ball-in-socket TMJ joint is moving over and beyond the bump intended to limit opening.  Immediately, you push down on the lower molar teeth while you push up and back on the chin.  
To keep the jaw from dislocating, avoid opening widely to begin with.  Put your fist under your chin while yawning.   Sometimes surgery is necessary to reduce the bump the jaw  is getting stuck over.

TMJ: Go to your local hospital er and see if they have a dental or oral surgery resident in-house or on call.  Do not try to do anything yourself, particularly if you are in pain.  Just attempt to stabilize your jaw until you are seen by a doctor.

Subluxation: Subluxation of the joint, joint dislocation needs to be reduced(relocated) quickly. Disks displacement is a similar but related condition. MRI and Cone Beam Tomography can be helpful Diagnostic tools. You need to be examined by a competent Dentist to perform the differential diagnosis.

Many reasons: A malocclusion, opening too wide, grinding your teeth, chewing too much gum, having oral surgery done can cause dislocation of the tmj. Any one or more of the above situations will do it. These are the most common causes, there are plenty of others.

Bruxism: Long term of effect of this jaw popping will cause sleep and muscle problems. This problem can be annoying and painful, leading to pain in the jaw region, headaches, neck aches and difficulty opening and closing the mouth.

You should...: See a dentist or an oral surgeon. This is definitely indicative of a serious problem. Either you have dislocated your TMJ joint or possibly fractured your jaw as your teeth should line up as they normally do. Seek advice ASAP to avoid chronic problems

i have been having jaw pain for 2 weeks. i've already been seen several times but it got worse when a dislocation occurred. how can i get urgent treatment.  went to er and they refused to do anything.

Proper Care: I would recommend that you start with your primary care doctor to help narrow down the cause(s) of the pain. Another option would be an ENT. The ER docs are looking to screen for conditions that need immediate workup and treatment. An urgent care facility will function largely the same way. Your PCP should point you in the right direction in order to get to the root cause of your pain. Good luck

Get checked again: Although a dislocation may be a possibility especially if it was pulled with effort. I am more concerned about infection and you need to get it checked by your dentist. Take care.
